Sweet Pear, Apple and Sultana Chutney



Sweet pear, apple and sultana chutney by Christine Connelly, Scottish Borders






Preparation Time

  • 350gm of Green Apples
  • 350gm Green Pears
  • 1 medium Sweet Red Onion
  • 200gm Sultanas
  • 350gm Soft Brown Sugar
  • 1/2tsp Ginger Puree
  • 200ml Cider Vinegar
  • 1/4tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2tsp Ground Nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp mixed spice
  • Salt and Pepper as required


Dice the apples and pears
Chop the onion
Put sugar, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Mixed spice and Cider Vinegar in a pan to dissolve.
Add apples, pears, sultanas and onion and bring to a boil mixing all the time.
Simmer over medium heat for 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring constantly until most of the liquid evaporates and mix is soft.
Add salt and pepper to your required taste
Put into jars and seal them.
